4Better Global Coalition

A youth-led bridge between grassroots realities and global agrifood advocacy.

The 4Better Global Coalition brings underrepresented voices into the rooms where food-systems policy is shaped, aligned with the FAO Four Betters framework.

A multi-stakeholder platform built by young scientists, for the communities global advocacy usually overlooks.

The coalition grew out of an inter-cohort collaboration: alumni of previous Young Scientists Group (YSG) cohorts, members of YSG Cohort 3, partner organizations, and the Global Coalition for Better, joining forces to turn lived experience into evidence that reaches global platforms.

Today it works as a strategic partner to World Food Forum (WFF) Headquarters, leading consultations on digital innovation and contributing grassroots data, case studies, and analysis across land tenure, trade, and resilient livelihoods.

Its distinct value is reach: mobilizing grassroots organizations, youth groups, and small-scale actors so that global advocacy outputs are grounded in real conditions, not only in the perspectives already represented at the table.

Why the coalition exists

Women farmers, especially young women, are central to food production, nutrition, and local economies, yet face structural barriers to land, technology, finance, and decision-making. Agrifood systems are under mounting pressure from technological change, geopolitical instability, and climate stress.

  5. Knowledge exchange

Translate consultation inputs and advocacy outputs into recommendations and knowledge products for youth constituencies, governments, and global platforms.

The Four Betters framework

The coalition's work maps to the four pathways of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's Four Betters, with youth acting as the bridge between innovation, advocacy, and community realities.

Better Production

Inclusive access to technology and innovation so that productive, sustainable practices reach small-scale and young women farmers, not only large operators.

Better Nutrition

Food systems that deliver healthy diets, drawing on the central role women farmers play in household nutrition and diet quality.

Better Environment

Resilience against climate stress and biodiversity loss, informed by the environmental stewardship of farming communities on the ground.

Better Life

Secure land tenure, fair financing, and social protection, so that resilient livelihoods and equitable value chains follow from the work.

Four pillars of work

Interlinked themes that carry the framework into practice.
